Best Treatment Options for Heroin Addiction

Quitting heroin is nearly impossible, but for those with motivation or sincere desire to quit, there are certain treatments available and recovery is possible. The treatment options include pharmacological treatments, detox programs, and behavioral therapies. These approaches to treatment can be effective individually, but studies show that integrating all of them is ideal for people suffering from heroin use disorder.

Comprehensive treatment programs offered at Rehab HC are considered effective as they help an addict to recover and restore normalcy in the behavior and function. In addition, they lower the risk of STDs, reduce criminal behavior, and increase employment rates.

Detoxification

Heroin users will undergo a detoxification program before starting their prescribed treatment program. In this case, patients are provided with medications that help reduce withdrawal symptoms. Some of these withdrawal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and pain. You should note that the detoxification program is not a treatment for addiction, but a vital step followed by pharmacological treatment or behavioral therapy. The following are the heroin detox methods.

Rapid Detoxification

In this case, opiate blockers are injected as the patient is under anesthesia. This process takes a few hours.

Outpatient Detoxification

Opiate blockers are injected in small doses. The process takes several weeks to conclude.

Medical supervision is recommended for heroin detoxification. This is because side effects are common and painful. Thus, there is a need for medical intervention to help manage the process.

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient treatment is the most effective for heroin addicts, and it makes sense. It ought to be carried out by a skilled staff. This is because an addict will get continual supervision, pharmacological treatments, and one-on-one support. The good thing about a residential facility is that you are free from distractions of your family, friends, work, colleagues, and everyday life. Thus, you can leave the outside world and focus on your recovery.

During the stay, you will get treatment to help manage unpleasant psychological effects, withdrawal symptoms, and physical addiction. The medications can ease your cravings and block your ability to get high. Over time, you can be weaned off the medical treatment.

Various medications have been approved for heroin addiction treatment. Most of these medications work on the opioid receptors in the brain but are safer. These are the medications that have been proven to be useful for treating heroin addiction.

Methadone

This opioid agonist is also known as Methadose or Dolophine, it is slow-acting and taken orally. It reduces your ability to get high and manages withdrawal symptoms. It is dispensed to patients daily. In fact, it is the oldest treatment for heroin addiction but still an effective option.

Buprenorphine

It is also known as Subutex. It helps relieve cravings without the harmful side effects of heroin. This medication contains naloxone and buprenorphine. It is taken sublingually or orally. It helps prevent patients from getting high. It is a good idea to take it orally to avoid possible withdrawal symptoms.

Naltrexone

This medication is also known as Revia or Depade. It blocks the action of heroin in the brain. The good thing about this medication is that it is not sedating and addictive. For it to be effective, a patient has to use it as prescribed.

Behavioral Therapies

Various behavioral therapies can be used for heroin addiction treatment. The main approaches are cognitive-behavior and contingency management therapy. The main aim of behavioral therapies is to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Thus, patients will learn how to cope with stress and how they can deal with cravings. These approaches are effective when they are combined with the pharmacological treatment.

Seeking Help

There are various health risks associated with the use of heroin. Fatal overdose and risk of infections like STDs are some of them. Continued use of heroin can cause collapsed veins, cellulitis, overdose, pulmonary complications, liver disease, abscesses, and infection of the heart. Using it during pregnancy has severe consequences like low birth weight.

Emerging Trends in Inpatient Addiction Treatment

Understanding how inpatient addiction treatment centers work can be quite confusing for some people. There are various options as far as types of therapies, length of stay, and specialized programs are concerned.

Rehab centers are continually striving to use and identify effective treatment methods. This explains why addicts seeking treatment and their families have a wide range of options. Although it can be confusing at first, it also means you can find an addiction treatment program that suits your particular needs.

In this post, you will learn about the emerging trends that are regarded as best practices in rehab centers. In addition, you will learn about cutting-edge methods that are showing a lot of promise. Ideally, they are the best practices that have become so effective that they are considered the standard of care in most inpatient addiction treatment centers.

Comprehensive, Personalized Treatment
It is now evident that addiction treatment providers are offering a wide range of facilities rather than a single path that all ought to follow. Upon admission, the rehab facility staff uses examination tools to understand areas in a patient’s life that require more attention and the therapies that can benefit him or her. Experts have found out that there are different ways in which addicts can recover. Even the traditional 12-step treatment approach has changed to include extras such as therapy and counseling.

To achieve the best results possible addiction treatment must be individualized to meet each person’s needs. This is because each individual has different goals, values, and motivation. Also, the root cause of addiction varies from one person to another, and there are several types of addiction.

Integration of Homeopathic, Holistic, and Clinical Techniques
In the recent past, rehab centers used to describe themselves as holistic, clinical, traditional, or 12-step, the truth is that modern facilities offer a combination of these methods. Usually, a given addiction treatment facility may focus its program on a given approach such as holistic treatment, and then add other types of services.

Focus on the Root Cause of Addiction
Addiction treatment experts argue that “getting clean” is not sufficient for long-term recovery. It is important to understand what led you to alcohol or drugs. This is necessary to help you unravel the primary cause of addiction so that you do not get back to the alcohol or substances after leaving the rehab.

Focus on Whole-Life Improvement
Other than addressing the main cause of addiction, it is a good idea to help people who have recovered to develop new interests and habits to improve their quality of life. Moreover, this will help them manage cravings and avoid the stress that can result in relapse. Patients are offered training in healthy eating, drug-free pain management, enjoyable exercise, building healthy relationships, and exciting leisure activities.

Holistic Therapy Techniques
Integration of eastern and western medicine is another significant trend in addiction treatment centers. For instance, techniques such as acupuncture, meditation, and yoga have been in use as healing techniques in different parts of the world for hundreds of years. Most treatment centers have adopted these techniques.

Medically Based Therapies
Advancements in medical technology have helped in alleviating pain caused by withdrawal symptoms. Besides, it has helped reduce biological dependency on the substances and reduce cravings. The main aim of addiction recovery is to restore the body of an addict to its natural biological processes. Some of the medical innovations that are widely used in inpatient addiction treatment centers include the bridge device, biochemical restoration, and neurofeedback.

New Drugs for Opioid Addiction
Heroin addiction has ravaged the country. Fortunately, researchers have developed new drugs to help opioid addicts recover from physical and physiological effects of addiction. Thus, there are alternatives to Buprenorphine and Methadone. They include

Naltrexone, Zubsolv, and Probuphine.
Although inpatient addiction treatment centers may promise to use modern, cutting-edge methods, it is vital for treatment seekers to carry out their homework when looking for a facility. For instance, you need to find the certifications and qualifications of the staff, licensing of the facility, and aftercare support systems.

When dealing with addiction, you may feel as though you have lost the battle or you are alone. You may even think you are the only one having problems with alcohol and drugs. We are here to help. If you have questions about addiction or seeking treatment, give us a call now on 0330 113 2627.

Game of Thrones Star Kit Harington Encounters Huge Breakdown, Visits Wellness Retreat for 'Stress and Alcohol Use'

The-coming-to-an-end of remarkably popular "Game of Thrones" on 19 May 2019 has brought tears to millions of fans around the world. However, the one who has had to encounter probably the biggest emotional breakdown is none other than Kit Harington--the star who has won a lot of hearts for his stellar role as courageous Jon Snow.

According to the New York post, the 32-year-old actor visited the luxury Prive-Swiss wellness retreat in Connecticut last month to undergo treatment for stress and alcohol use.
The representative of the British actor has confirmed the report by issuing a statement. "Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues."

Kit is believed to have got extremely emotional with the fact that the incredibly fascinating television series will no longer showcase its mesmerizing charm. And there came a time where he found himself unable to deal with such a huge loss so much so that he had to check into a wellness retreat in the US to overcome the stress and exhaustion.
The actor talked about the onslaught that he had to face during his last shots. His soul was filled with grief that he wouldn't be able to do them ever again in his life. And it's due to this massive loss that he broke down.

"My final day of shooting, I felt fine... I felt fine... I felt fine... then I went to do my last shots and started hyperventilating a bit," he said. "Then they called 'wrap' and I just f****** broke down. It was this onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this again".

The London-born star rocked the finale of the fantasy drama that attracted an unprecedented 19.3 million viewers in the US. His larger than life actions were by far the biggest highlight of the charismatic show.

Kit, who married his GoT co-star Rose Leslie in 2018, has struggled to cope with the incredible fame and attention the show brought to him. He had even termed the fame as "terrifying" last year.

While Jon Snow was the show's focus and winning plenty of accolades, the actor got entangled into boundless feelings which were extremely hard to deal with.

"I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world when actually, I felt very vulnerable. I had a shaky time in my life around there - like I think a lot of people do in their 20s," he said.

Recently a documentary about the show called "The Last Watch" was launched. It revealed Harington completely lost in tears when he came to know about his character's fate.

Well, it just goes on to show that the ups and downs of life could at times turn out to be rather nasty. And unless you are able to encounter the unbridled emotions with the needed calmness and maturity, the piles of stress and depression could eventually take over.
Though there are many alcohol rehabilitation centers in London,  Rehab Healthcare is the leading name as it provides the most reliable treatment. Equipped with experienced doctors and modern facilities, alcohol advisory service has won a lot of appreciation for helping out many people.
